on my second playthrough of dragon age: inquisition. playing as trevelyan, romancing blackwall and trying to make different decisions from the first go around.

so this was my first time playing "champions of the just," and i like it so much more than the mage plot in redcliffe. i got really mad playing the game the first time because time travel is just ... not something i want in dragon age, and it was way, way, way confusing to just get thrown into that. the templar plot, on the other hand, uses age-old dragon age tropes to make the player get to know their herald a little better, and the most confusing aspect of it is just cole's general deal. even the red lyrium stuff has already been brought up numerous times, even if you haven't played da2.

one thing i think is kinda cool about the divergent plots here is that the mage plot shows you the consequences of a world ruled by corypheus, which emboldens you as a player to do whatever it takes to stop him. but with envy driving the templar plot, you get to see the consequences of a world ruled by YOU, an inquisitor who becomes a tyrant, which makes you as a player a bit more careful about the decisions you make. it's really fun to think about how playing through only ONE of them the first time could affect the way you make decisions throughout the game. it's just a totally different way to frame what's coming.

i have never felt so harried about christmas before!

i've got vacation next week, so i have to work a little ahead at work to make sure they can take over my stuff while i'm gone.

but i also have early deadlines this week, so i gotta put out like three weekly newspapers! in one week! and no one's HERE, everyone else is already on vacation, so there's hardly any time to do my regular work on top of all of it.

meanwhile, i'm trying to get book covers printed for my dad's christmas present, and so far no one's gotten back to me with a quote, so i've gotta cruise town tomorrow to all the commercial printers and hope i designed them with the right dimensions

haven't done any wrapping yet, but luckily i've got everything in except the book covers.

the vacation will feel good, good, good when it comes.

I promised I'd start using Dreamwidth more, and what better way to do that than with a Riverdale liveblog!

First, a recap: I thought last week's episode, "Manhunter," was a bit of a mess compared to the tight, madcap prison break episode we just had. I didn't realize how frustrating it would be when they finally introduced supernatural elements. I want the Gargoyle King to make sense, but he's mostly just a jumpscare device now -- which doesn't even work because he never moves, just sort of looms. But apparently they were doing a Scream reference when he broke into Betty's house last week, so ... OK!

I'm super excited for the Archie/Jughead road trip. Less excited about Betty being with the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. We've done this plot four times, and it never goes anywhere! Hopefully it'll be a one and done thing, or it'll tie into the cult stuff. At least Archie's jailtime was new.

Now onto the show:

DREAMWIDTH. HELLO.

I am very tired. Didn't get much sleep last night because I a.) worked late, then b.) had a mile-long list of chores I wanted to do when I got home (like I was super ready to rearrange my whole room! even though there's only one arrangement that has ever worked!), then c.) got woken up early by work.

That burst of energy has all culminated in me signing up for a volunteer position at a local nonprofit. I have been wanting to get involved for a while because their building is literally right next to where I work, and they are faith-based and helped out by almost every church in the area. My faith has grown a lot over the past year, and I really want to do something with it, so this is a very low stakes way of getting started. Just doing stuff behind-the-scenes for a couple of hours here and there.

(Insert gif of Jesus shaking his head at how adorable I am.)

In other news, I'm in like day 3 of dieting (mostly just watching my calories, not eating out) and uggHHHHH. I never gained weight in college, but that's probably because I had to walk around a lot and kind of grazed, nibbling on a meal all day in my room instead of wolfing it down, which left me less hungry. But in the past year, I've had a long desk job, ate a lot of fast food, and got on Lexapro, which makes you retain weight. So now I'm 25 pounds heavier, and that is like ... crazy. It's not a big deal -- I know I should exercise more and cut down on the fatty foods, so it's a good excuse/motivator to be more regimented and eat light sandwiches instead of my beautiful Chick-fil-a.

Playthrough of Dragon Age: Inquisition continues apace. After a lot of waffling, I'm committing to a Solas romance. Even being pretty much spoiled for his plot, I still don't know quite what happens, and there's an element of push and pull with him that I probably wouldn't get with Cullen. So, egg boy it is.

Aaaaaaaand lots of dread for a weekend work trip I'm going on over the weekend. I get to stay in a hotel room by myself (which I love!) but there's also a long, long drive where I'll have to wear headphones to avoid talking and a long, long awards ceremony (where I probably didn't even win anything!), but yeah boy.
